Scenarios and Other Resources

The Ohio School Safety Center (OSSC) is continuously working to develop resources and scenarios for schools to use in conducting their emergency management test. Below are some sample scenarios and resources schools can use in testing their emergency responses to hazards on their campus. The scenarios can be conducted with school community members and other stakeholders such as law enforcement, fire, emergency management, and emergency medical services.

We encourage schools to think about hosting tabletop exercises virtually through a web conferencing platform to practice social distancing.

K-12 School Severe Weather Toolkit

This free exercise resource is designed to help primary and secondary school staff, first responders, and other partners prepare for strong winds and tornadic events. The toolkit can be found on Ohio EMA’s website.

REMS TA Center Tabletop Toolkits

The REMS TA Center has developed additional exercise and training packages that may be used to strengthen EOPs and identify gaps and weaknesses or bolster youth preparedness and engagement at a school or school district. These packages vary in their contents. The Emergency Exercises Package includes

  • An introduction to emergency exercises
  • Tabletop exercise instructions
  • Tabletop exercise scenarios/injects and podcasts for a power outage and infectious disease outbreak, and accompanying resources.
