Webinar: Opioids, Drug-Related Emergencies, and Substance Abuse Prevention Before, During, and After the COVID-19 Pandemic

Monday, August 10, 2020 - 2:00pm to 3:30pm

The U.S. Department of Education (the Department), Office of Safe and Supportive Schools (OSSS) and its Readiness and Emergency Management for Schools (REMS) Technical Assistance (TA) Center will host a Webinar on the topic of opioids, drug-related emergencies, and substance abuse prevention before, during, and after the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. During the 90-minute Webinar, the REMS TA Center will share information on planning for opioid- and drug-related emergencies and substance abuse prevention and review why this topic is important to consider in all settings and at all times, especially in the current context of ensuring school safety at home. Dr. Sycarah Fisher from the University of Georgia will provide an overview of adolescent mental health and substance use and highlight school-based prevention and intervention methods. The Department will then provide a snapshot of resources to help prevent and reduce youth drug and substance use. This event will also feature a dedicated question-and-answer session during which time presenters will field questions from participants.
